Bringing a pet into New Zealand is expensive and there are strict regulations which need to be met. Despite the cost, over 6000 cats and dogs are brought into New Zealand each year! You are advised to use a pet transport company to arrange the documentation and flight bookings (airlines don’t accept pet bookings from private individuals).

Pets arriving into New Zealand from Australia do not require quarantine, provided the health requirements are met

Pets from all other countries need to be quarantined for a minimum period of 10 days from date of arrival. You will also need to apply for an import permit prior to shipment

Further information can be found at the MPI website “Steps to Importing Cats and Dogs”, or contact us for advice.
