Start ticking off your moving house checklist below.

Shipping your personal belongings: your options

There are several options when it comes to shipping personal belongings to Australia. When weighing up your options, there are several factors to consider, such as:

  1. How much do you want to ship?
  2. What's your budget?
  3. How fast do you want your goods to arrive?

FCL: for when you’re shipping a full household

Moving Personal Effects to AustraliaIf you are shipping a full household, we recommend a full-container load (FCL).

This is a faster way to ship as you’re not having to share the container with others. Once your container has been loaded, it will be sealed and taken directly to the port to ensure a fast shipping time.

Transworld offer regular shipping services of full container loads to all ports in Australia.

Key benefits:

  1. More space: a full container can typically fit a whole household's worth of items
  2. Faster shipping times: because the container is only for you, you have more control over shipping dates and times. As soon as it's loaded, the container is exported.
  3. Ship all over Australia: our full-containers can be shipped to all ports of Australia and delivered to any city.

Groupage: for when you're happy to share

If you've got a small household, or just wanting to ship a few household items, Groupage shipping is a great option.

This lets you share a container with our other clients moving to the same location. As a shared option, Groupage offers an economical way of shipping and is a popular choice for those moving to Australia.

Keep in mind, this service may take a little longer while we wait to fill the container before heading to your destination but it can be a very cost effective option.

Key benefits:

  1. Lower cost: pricing is based on the cubic volume of your shipment, so you only pay for the room that your goods take up
  2. Flexibility of space: giving you the freedom to choose how much you want to ship, from a couple boxes to a small household
  3. Ship all over Australia: with ports in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Perth, we can ship to any city in Australia

Air Freight: for when you want it extra fast

Australian Air FreightAir Freight is the fastest shipping option while being the most expensive. Typically, this is a good option if you've got a small shipment (like extra baggage) of essential items you can't do without.

When weighing up the options, consider the urgency against the cost of using air freight.

Key benefits:

  1. Fastest option: air freight is the fastest way to send your items to Australia
  2. Perfect for a few essential items: because it's so speedy, this a good option if you've got some important items you want delivered quickly
  3. Fly to any city in Australia: our air freight service can send your goods to any city in Australia

How long will shipping take?

  1. FCL: Once your container has been loaded, typically shipping to Australia will take between 4 to 6 weeks
  2. Groupage: Because this is a shared container, shipping can take a little longer while we wait to fill the container. Once it is full, shipping times will be approximately 6 to 8 weeks depending on your location in Australia
  3. Air Freight: This is the fastest shipping option and usually takes up to 2 weeks
